How to Dress For the Change in Seasons
As Spring marches on and we move closer to the warmer weather, we inevitably are going to transition from winter clothes as we inch toward the typical summer getups that are possibly the funnest to wear. But how do you dress when it’s not quite Spring yet, and winter’s chill still clings to the air, and weather even dips below freezing from time to time?
That’s where we are now.
Change Jackets
Put away the heavy winter coat, and replace it with a lighter denim or leather one. Try choosing a lighter tone to reflect the sunnier days that inevitably and pleasantly surprise us more frequently deeper into the spring season. Sometimes you can get away with just a thick hoodie, even when it’s near freezing, as long as you don’t have to walk to your destination.
Wear Layers
One easy way to dress for the warmer weather of early Spring but stay prepared for cold snaps and freezes is to take your layering game to the next level. You probably already are used to layering for when temps get super cold. Transitional dressing is a different kind of layering. You want to wear layers you can easily put on and take off depending on how the weather changes.
Try a hooded sweatshirt or sweater over a knit shirt that will work when you take the outer layer off. You could wear a slightly oversized shirt that can easily be taken off or put on for comfort.
You can also layer with accessories to continually adjust to changing weather patterns. Scarves, while useful in winter for sure, are also great for spring because you can easily take them off and store them in your purse or manbag if you find after a few minutes out you don’t need one.
Wear Brighter Colors
The colors we tend to wear in winter are darker. We’re talking about the navy blues, the dark browns, the blacks. So when Spring comes around the corner, get into the spirit of things by shopping for lighter fare when it comes to both your clothes and your accessories.
So go ahead and proudly put on eggshell, forest greens, and pale yellow during this time. Experiment a bit by mixing and matching colors. Baby blues, pinks, and oranges can accent whites and blacks. When a color combination looks and feels right to you, go with it.
Reorganize Your Closet
Last but certainly not least, organize your closet for the new season. Put the heavy fleece coats, long underwear and thick leggings, and fur-lined hoodies away in storage or at the back of your closet. It’s time to bring on the three-quarter length sleeved shirts, the ripped jeans, the open-toe sandals. OK, maybe not that last one quite yet, but you can definitely switch the boots up for a pair of spring shoes. It’s smart to keep the winter stuff accessible though, just in case.
Being ready for the change in seasons when it comes to your clothes only takes a small amount of extra effort, and being prepared for colder and warmer weather together helps you adjust.
